Day Trips from the Amalfi Coast.
Island of Capri Guide
You can reach Capri by regular ferries (timed to depart in the morning and return in the afternoon) from Positano, Amalfi Town, Salerno and Sorrento. Capri town offers shopping, people watching, Amacapri is more interesting with some nice historic buildings and continuing on the bus route you will find a nice beach area at the Faro. Boat trips from Marina Grande can also take you around its coast. more > >
Herculaneum Guide
You can of course visit Herculaneum on an organised tour. If however you prefer to travel independently then it is best to take the train from Sorrento. You can (as with Pompeii) hire headphones with an audio guide. Smaller than Pompeii, Herculaneum can give you in many ways a better insight into the structure of a Roman city and being smaller it can be a lot easier on your feet! more > >
Pompeii Guide
If you have not been before Pompeii's sheer scale will surprise you. Audio guides are available and a personal guide may be able to give you a more entertaining tour. However plan what you want to see before; consider how long you will be there and what is realistic in the time. more > >

Sorrento Guide
Sorrento can offer a nice variation from the Amalfi coast, it has a more "buzzy" feeling, particularly in the evening. There is a wider selection of restaurants and types of bar and plenty of shopping options. Compared to Positano, in particular, costs can be considerably lower. more > >
